Team

Iskra is built by a hardware engineer and a data systems engineer.

Pawel has taken process hardware from concept to product. Matt builds the data systems that science and engineering teams run on.

Pawel Piotrowicz

Pawel Piotrowicz

CEO and co-founder
Bay Area

Pawel has spent 12 years taking new energy and materials technology out of the lab and toward products. He started in plasma physics at the University of Illinois, then worked with Oak Ridge National Laboratory on plasma sources for fusion materials testing. He spent 3 years at Lyten scaling plasma reactors that turn greenhouse gases into carbon nanomaterials. In 2022 he joined Noon Energy as employee #3, helped build the engineering team and led thermal and systems engineering as the technology moved from concept to product and scale-up.

He has a BS, MS and PhD in Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering from the University of Illinois, 13 publications in plasma physics, and is an inventor on 1 granted patent and 8 pending patent filings.

Matt Grobelny

Matt Grobelny

CTO and co-founder
Chicago

Matt spent 4 years at Accenture leading lab data system implementations for regulated biopharma and federal clients. At GreenLight Biosciences he was Head of Data Management, where he built the company's data systems, including the lab systems used by more than 200 scientists and the manufacturing and business intelligence systems. He also led the team that won first place in the 2024 Databricks GenAI World Cup (Americas). At Albert Invent he was Lead Integrations Engineer, connecting the platform to customers' data systems.

He built Iskra's software on both the engineering side and the vendor side. He has an MSc in Animal Biology (Genetics) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Why we started Iskra.

Building a process system means connecting engineering decisions to equipment suppliers and the people placing orders. Too much of that work happens in separate files and email threads.

We started Iskra to keep process design and procurement in one connected workspace. AI handles routine work while engineers make design choices and purchasing teams manage supplier selection and orders.
